This is an emerald and quartz sphere. It is 2.6" in diameter and 1lb .3oz. Emerald is a life-affirming stone. It opens the heart chakra and calms the emotions. It provides inspiration, balance, wisdom, and patience. It is said to promote friendship, peace, harmony, and domestic bliss by enabling the wearer to both give and receive unconditional love. Emerald’s ability to cure the sick is well documented, as are its talismanic virtues. Less familiar is emerald’s long association with alchemy, the occult, and magic. As the stone of truth, emerald was thought to protect against unwanted spells or enchantment, so magicians used them to shield themselves from both malevolent spirits and the conjurations of others. Although the terms are often used interchangeably, there is a small distinction between an amulet and a talisman. An amulet is a charm that is worn to prevent harm and promote health and wellbeing. Emerald amulets have been worn as rings, bracelets, and necklaces for at least six millennia. Most of the world‘s emeralds are mined in Zambia, Colombia, and Brazil. Elena Basaglia, Gemfields‘ gemologist, said there‘s been increasing interest in Zambia‘s emeralds, particularly from dealers in Europe. Most emeralds form in contact metamorphic rocks---that is, the narrow, baked zone where a hot magma (lava) comes into contact with sedimentary rocks such as limestone or shale. Many emeralds come from contact metamorphosed black shale beds.
